Abstract

This action research aimed to assess the effectiveness of the supervision system in research-based professional internship for five-year program agriculture teachers. The study is a continuation of the research project ?Model development for Research-Based Professional Internship for Five-year program agriculture teachers?. The research-based supervision system was developed and applied in 3 consecutive phases of student teachers? teaching and research: 1) development of action research on learning and teaching, 2) learning assessment and research conclusion, and 3) presentation of research findings. The school network of this project consisted of 8 schools, 16 cooperative teachers, 9 university supervisors, and 21 student teachers. Data collection techniques and instruments consisted of a) professional internship logbooks as a means of reflection and supervision, b) student teacher questionnaire on the satisfaction to practice in school and classroom research, c) student teacher questionnaire on professional attitude, and d) evaluation form for poster presentation of the student teachers? research projects. At the end, a reflection seminar was conducted with all participants. Effectiveness of the research-based supervision system was achieved with quantitative as well as qualitative analyses. The findings are concluded as follows. 1) Through continuous guidance, student teachers successfullystudent teachers? research projects were evaluated and found to be at good to high levels in 3 aspects: poster quality, presentation skill, and research reflection. 2) the student teachers? feedback on professional internship was satisfying. They demonstrated their achievement on teaching and highly satisfied with the supervision system, especially on classroom research supervision. 3) The student teachers, cooperative teachers, school administrators, and university supervisors reflected that the research-based supervision system was effective and can be applied for the five-year program of agriculture teachers. Most importantly, communication must be reiterated in the supervision system so that all concerned parties understand more clearly the procedures involved. completed eight innovative classroom research projects, one for each school. Abstract

This research paper explored the cooperating teachers? and the university supervisors? understanding of Classroom Research Principles and the supervision of Classroom Research for pre-service science teachers. The subjects included twenty five cooperating teachers and eleven university supervisors in two Rajabhat Universities situated in western Thailand. The research instruments included a questionnaire about Classroom Research Principles and interviews regarding the supervision of Classroom Research for pre-service science teachers. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, and content analysis. The results indicated that most of the cooperating teachers and university supervisors understood the principles of Classroom Research, but they did not adequately supervise the pre-service science teachers when they were conducting Classroom Research because they did not consider this to be their responsibility. Cooperating teachers thought that the university should have clarified the role of cooperating teachers when they supervised pre-service science teachers. This would have enhanced the ability of the pre-service science teachers to conduct classroom research. Cooperating teachers also felt that the university should train them to conduct Classroom Research utilizing the advice and support of university educators.

Abstract

The associations were investigated between the supervision of Muslim adolescents’ behavior based on Islamic beliefs and the adolescents’ behavior patterns, their area of residence, gender, age group, family status, education level, level of understanding of Islamic principles, level of upbringing under Islamic principles, participation in religious activities, and attendance at special Islamic study courses. Data were collected in the three southern border provinces of Thailand—namely, Pattani, Yala, and Naratiwat— from 2,160 Thai Muslim adolescents who were selected by means of a multi-stage sampling technique. The data were analyzed using chi-square tests, and odds ratios were established employing the EcStat statistical package. The results showed that the adolescents’ patterns of behavior in conforming to Islamic society norms, their understanding level of Islamic principles, level of upbringing under Islamic principles, participation in religious activities, and participation in special Islamic study classes were significantly associated with the degree to which their behavior had been supervised based on Islamic principles. Adolescents who had been highly supervised were those with behavior patterns which closely conformed to Islamic society norms (6.71 times), adolescents with a high level of understanding of Islamic principles (3.16 times), adolescents with a high level upbringing under Islamic principles (3.03 times), adolescents who always participated in religious activities (1.43 times), and those who regularly took part in a special Islamic course (1.79 times).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the supervision of youth based on the Islamic beliefs of Muslim leaders in the communities of 3 southern provinces in Thailand. Data were collected via forum discussions among 60 youth leaders and 60 representatives of Muslim leaders. Logical context description was employed to analyze the content by comparing theoretical concepts with other related studies. The results showed that youth members in every community were supervised by the spiritual leaders and community leaders through youth clubs and various youth groups; therefore, the majority of youth led a way of life within a framework of Islamic principles.

Abstract

on Islam by Muslim leaders in three southern border provinces of Thailand. In-depth interviews were undertaken with principal informants: six Muslim leaders, six youth leaders, and six Muslim academics. Expansion description was employed to analyze the data. The results showed that in each community, Muslim leaders played a principal role in supervising youth based on Islamic belief by using different methods depending on the surrounding situations and individual ability. Supervisory budget sources were donation money, Zakat grants, and an endorsement budget from state organizations. However, there were four major problems which caused inefficiency in youth supervision: lack of understanding and definition of the roles and duties of some Muslim leaders, unawareness of the importance of youth supervision, skill and experience deficiencies in youth supervision, and a limited relationship between Muslim leaders and youth groups.
