Embryo and leaf explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) containing varying concentrations and combinations of 6-benzyl aminopurine (BAP), kinetin and ?-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). The maximum number of shoots per explant (4.5) and percentage multiple shoot induction (100%) were obtained in MS supplemented with 0.05 mg.L-1 NAA and 0.5 mg.L-1 BAP. The maximum shoot length (135 mm) was obtained on a medium with 1.0 mg.L-1 kinetin and 0.1 mg.L-1 NAA. When cotyledonary node explants and shoot tip explants were cultured on media with BAP and kinetin singly, each at 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg.L-1, both explants produced the maximum number of shoots (4.75) and shoot length (25 mm) on 2.0 mg.L-1 BAP while the least responses were obtained on 1.0 mg.L-1 kinetin. There was no organ formation from leaves as they all produced calli. Multiple shoots from the embryo produced roots directly on shoot induction medium while shoot tip-derived multiple shoots rooted when tested on both 0.25 and 0.5 mg.L-1 NAA. Shoots from cotyledonary nodes did not produce roots. Successfully rooted plantlets obtained from this study is the fi rst report of in vitro plant regeneration in African yam bean. This procedure for direct organ differentiation would facilitate micropropagation and improvement of this species through genetic transformation. |

The fry developed to fingerling size within 15 days after hatching. The development and formation of the organs of Siamese fighting fish fry from day 1 to day 30 are described. Yolk sac was reabsorbed within day 4 after hatching. The nervous system including the brain, ears, spinal cord ect, was well developed in comparison to the other systems of the fry at same age. It was almost completely developed into different parts when the fry was 2 days old. The heart of 1-day fry was the blood chamber and it developed into the complete four chambers at the age of 8 days. The digestive tract was developed as a long blind tube from day one and became fully formed as the one in adult around day 15. Exocrine pancreas and spleen were forming by day 3 and 5, respectively. The skeletal muscle blocks were separated from each other by the myoseptum. They quickly expanded in volume. Thyroid gland and thymus gland were observed around day 7 and day 8, respectively. The labyrinth organ was found at the anterior area of opercular chamber by day 9. Around day 15, gonads were differentiated into ovary or testes. |

SJ 4 were developed. The conditions for callus induction from the primary leaf were on B5 medium supplemented with 1-3 mg/l BA, 0.10-0.20 mg/l NAA and 1,650 mg/l NH4NO3. The optimum medium for regenerating primary leaf callus were on B5 medium supplemented with 1 mg/l BA, 0.15 mg/l NAA, 1,650 mg/l NH4NO3 and the same medium with 2 mg/l BA, 0.15 mg/l NAA and 1,650 mg/l NH4NO3. For the hypocotyl a piece located 2 mm. lower from the cotyledonary node can be regenerated. The condition for callus induction from hypocotyl were on RV-5 medium supplemented with 0.1-0.4 mg/l IAA and 0.5-3 mg/l BA. The appropriate medium for regenerating hypocotyl callus was RV5 medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l BA and 0.2 mg/l IAA. |
