Abstract

Brittle-elastic material such as concrete or rock becomes cracked when external traction forces are increased beyond the critical limit. These cracks begin to propagate and coalesce in a stable manner and forming a growing region of damage which will affect the original stress field. The purpose of this research is to present a theoretical analysis to find a better evaluation of the stress field. This can be done by taking the damaged region into account as a pseudo-body force. The governing Navier equation is converted tointegral equations which their solutions obtained by the Boundary Integral Element method.
