Abstract

The Emotional Quotient (EQ) consists of 9 aspects: self control, sympathy, responsibility, self motivation, decision making and problem solving, interrelationship, self-esteem, satisfactory life and optimism. This study of factors affecting high school students' emotional quotient in Chiang Mai was statistically analyzed by using descriptive statistics, category principal component analysis, non parametric statistics, canonical correlation analysis and regression analysis. The findings showed that students' self control, sympathy, responsibility, self motivation, decision making and problem solving, and satisfactory life were at the moderate to high level. For students' interrelationship, self-esteem and optimism, most results appeared at the moderate to low level. To determine the factors affecting the high school students' EQ, the regression model was generated to predict EQ in each aspect from those factors which were personal, family and school factors. At the level of significance .05 showed that the relation between EQ and each factor were linear canonical correlation; the canonical correlation coefficients between EQ and those factors were 0.357, 0.491 and 0.393, respectively. According to those three factors, the most influential variables on EQ were sex, family interrelationship and students, teacher and friends relationship, respectively.

Abstract

The study of attitude and health behavior of Science and Technology Students, Chiang Mai University. 1,404 undergraduate students were selected from 2,670 of them by stratified random sampling. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, category principal component analysis, canonical correlation, nonparametric, analysis of variance and category regression analysis. The results of analysis by category principal component, we found that the factors which affect the attitude and health behavior were classified into two groups: Sex risk behavior and the faculty of students are the important factors in the first group. The academic year which they firstly come to be a student, the health level of students and the expenditure are the important factors in the second group. At the 0.05 level of significance, there are difference in the basic data ,attitude and the health level of students which are classified by faculty of students. The basic data, attitude and the health level are correlated at 0.832 and the risk behavior student group is affected from the very beginning which they first come to be a student, and so are income and expenditure. Using analysis of variance at 0.05 level of significance, there are differences between health risk behavior of each faculty in Science and Technology group. Another result, using category regression, is that drinking alcohol is mostly affected to the risk behavior of smoking, sexual relationship in the past 6 months and motorcycle riding.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were: 1) to compare the health belief and food consumption behavior between the pupils with normal nutritional status and those with overnutritional status, 2) to identify the factors related to food consumption behavior of the pupils; and to find out the factors influencing the nutritional status of the pupils. The samples were 258 pupils with normal nutritional status and 256 pupils with overnutritional status in the upper level of primary school in Muang District of Kamphaeng Phet Province in 2001. The questionnaire was used as a tool to find out the health beliefs and food consumption behavior. All data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and non-parametric statistics. Category regression analysis was used to find the relationship between variable factors and food consumption behavior. Logistic regression analysis was also used to figure out which factors influencing the nutritional status of the pupils. At the .05 level of significance, the pupils with normal nutritional status and those with overnutritional status had different health belief and food consumption behavior. Those with overnutritional status had not only improper food consumption behavior of eating very rapidly but also consuming a lot of snack, fried food and soft drink. The factors related to the food consumption behavior in normal nutritional status were health belief, gender and family income, whereas father's education and drinking expense were related to food consumption behavior of the overnutritional status. The factors influencing the nutritional status were health belief, food consumption behavior, education of the parents. These factors could be used to classify the nutritional status correctly about 77.08 percent of the pupils.
