Abstract

This study was conducted to determine some physical properties of sugar cane which play an important role in harvester design and development. Three varieties of sugar cane F 140, F 156 and U-Thong I were measured in terms of hardness, shearing, compression and tension forces. Twenty regular size and length of stalks were taken as the sample of each variety. The specimens of hardness, shearing and compression force measurement were taken three portions of cane stalk : bottom, middle and top. The tension force measurement was done only at the bottom and top portions. It was found that the effective weight and stalk diameter of U-Thong I were more than the other two. The hardness and shearing force of F 140 were more than of F 156 and U-Thong I while the compression and tension force of F 156 were more than that of F 149 and U-Thong I. U-Thong I had less hardness, shearing compression and tension force.

Abstract

This research was the study on the draft of moldboard plow, disk plow disk harrow. The soil in the experimental field was sandy loam of low moisture content and rather high density. The field had been used for corn planting in the previous years. It was founded that the draft of the moldboard plow was higher than disk plow and disk harrow. The draft was increasing as the speed was up and the ratio of increasing draft of the moldboard plow was very high at the high speed of operation. Weight and shape of the implement were the important factors that involved in the land preparation depth as well as draft.

Abstract

The cyanide and nitrate contents in 24 kinds of grasses collected from Pakchong Animal Nutrition and Research Center, Nakorn Rajasima province during summer month are analysed. It was found that the cyanide contents varied from 0.0872 ppm to 77.24 ppm. The greatest amount is found in Sorghum halepense while the smallest in Digitaria sp. The second and third richest in cyanide are Sorghum almum and Digitaria decumbens with the cyanide content of 44.21 ppm and 29.90 ppm respectively. The cyanide contents in all kind of grasses examined are less than 200ppm and are safe for grazing. However, safety depends on the kind and the amount of grasses the animal grazes in a day with a special precaution on Sorghum halepense and Sorghum almum which contain cyanide in the highest level. It was also found that the nitrate contents varied from 24 ppm to 416 ppm The greatest amount was found in Panicum coloratum and the smallest in Eragrostes superb. The second and third richest in nitrate are Digitaria sp. And Digitaria decumbens with the nitrate content of 312 ppm and 256 ppm respectively. The nitrate contents in all kind of grasses examined are also safe for grazing. There is no relationship between the cyanide and nitrate contents in the grasses under study. The grass that is rich in cyanide may contain a small amount of nitrate whereas the grass with a small amount of cyanide may contain a large amount of nitrate.

Abstract

The results of preliminary test for alkaloids, flavanoids, steroids and triterpenoids of four species of the genus Lagerstroemia (Lythraceae) showed that there were only trace amount of alkaloids in the leaves of L. speciosa Pers., L. macrocarpa Wall., L. loudonii Teijsm. & Binn., L. duperreana Pierre and in the baeks of L. duperreana. There was no fiavanoid in the leaves and the barks of L. duperreana. The leaves of L. speciosa contained only trace amount of flavanoids but in the leaves of L. macrocarpa and L. loudonii, flavanoids were concentrated. There were steroids in the leaves and the barks of all plants which were tested. The isolation and structure elucidation of the compounds of L. Lagerstroemia tested is under way.

Abstract

The anthelmintic activity of Sakae naa (Combretum quadrangulare Kurz) seed on round worms of buffalo calves was studied. The expertimental buffalo calves were belonged to the farmers in Amphoe Kaset Somboon, Chaiyaphum provice. The dried ripe seeds of Sakae naa were ground and dissolved in water before oral administration. The results showed that the seeds can be used as a round – worm anthelmintic for buffalo calves. The dosages of one seed, one half seed and one third seed per kilogram of body weight or equivalent to 54, 27 and 18 milligrams per kilogram of body weight respectively, can decreased the number of Neoascaris vitulorum eggs in the feces to zero within 1-3 weeks after a single oral administration. Toxicity of Sakae naa seed was also confirmed. The dried ripe seed of Sakae naa also have no acute toxicity to albino rats and mice when administered orally in a single dose of 582 and 1985 milligrams per kilogram of body weight respectively. The drug of such doses neither kill both experimental rats and mice nor cause any clinical signs of toxicity within 48 hours after the administration.
