Chemical compounds of the extracts from each method were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed the percentage yield of the extracts was 0.0167, 0.0045, 0.0342, 0.4170, 0.3510, 0.3969 and 12.2400%, respectively. The major chemical component in the essential oils from all distillation methods and both solvents was benzyl salicylate, but the extracts from cold and hot enfleurage were linalool and n-undecanoic acid, respectively. |

The yields of M. alba essential oils from the three distillations were 0.225, 0.120 and 0.199%, respectively. The percentage yields of M. alba absolutes obtained from cold and hot enfleurage, hexane and petroleum ether extractions at saturation point (1,500 g of flower/ 200 ml of fat, 400 g/ 400 ml of oil, 200 and 150 g/L of solvent) were 0.3511, 2.7506, 0.0457 and 0.0497%, respectively. The chemical composition of the essential oils and absolutes was analyzed by GC-MS. The results showed that linalool was the major component of the oils and indole, linalool and phenylethyl alcohol were the major components of the absolutes. |

The flowers were extracted by cold or hot enfleurage, or by solvent extraction with hexane or petroleum ether. The chemical composition of the tuberose absolutes was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that percentage yields of tuberose oil from cold enfleurage, hot enfleurage, hexane and petroleum ether extractions were 0.3137%, 6.5808%, 0.0279% and 0.0182%, respectively. The main chemical component detected in both enfleurage absolutes was methyl benzoate, while benzyl benzoate and pentacosane were found to be the main chemical components in hexane and petroleum ether absolutes, respectively. |

The results showed that the yield of oil obtained from S1, S2 and S3 by hexane extraction was 0.983%, 0.900% and 0.857% (w/w), respectively, while by hydro distillation the yield was 1.137%, 1.262% and 1.373% (w/w), respectively. The chemical constituents of essential oils isolated by hexane extraction and hydro distillation were examined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that essential oils in the plai rhizomes isolated by hexane extraction and by hydro distillation were rather similar in their major composition, but different in minor components. The plai oil obtained by hexane extraction contained mainly: sabinene (24.05-39.11%), ?-terpinene (6.68-7.74%), terpinen-4-ol (33.11-49.36%) and (E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl) butadiene (DMPBD) (5.31-8.28%), whereas that obtained by hydro-distillation contained: sabinene (36.71-53.50%), ?- terpinene (5.27-7.25%), terpinen-4-ol (21.85-29.96%) and DMPBD (0.95-16.16%). |
