Sows using PGF 2? had shorter period between drug administration to farrowing (23.75 VS 52.24 hours, P = 0.0009), shorter period of farrowing (3.95 VS 4.26 hours, P = 0.64), lower percentage of stillbirth (1.94 VS 4.06%, P=0.096), higher percentage of sows started farrowing at 20-32 hours after drug administration (75.00 VS 19.23%, P<0.01), and higher percentage of sows finished the process of farrowing within 36 hours (96.15 VS 44.23%, P<0.01). PGF 2? is an effective tool for using to reach a good farm management. |

An average of 275-325 kg. body weight from the total 80 heifers with age range of 18-30 months were selected in order to be tested in the 2 breeding seasons (hot wet and hot dry) for their first conception rate, A.I. index and cost per conception. For each season three groups of heifers were imposed by randomized design : (1) control, (2) imposed with PGF2?, and (3) imposed with Progestagen (SMB), and pregnancy diagnosis was determined by ultra sound sonography at 30 days from A.I. The results in each group of the hot wet season showed the conception rate to be 45.5%, 25.0% and 41.7%, A.I. index and cost per conception were 2.20, 4.00 and 2.40 with 24,735.20 baht, 24,746.54 baht and 24,222.91 baht per conception (p>0.05). Whereas in the hot dry breeding season resulted in conception rate were found to be 53.3%, 40.0% and 40.0%, A.I. index and cost per conception were 1.88, 2.5 and 2.50 with 23,561.92 baht, 23,934.30 baht (p<0.05) and 23,658.60 baht per conception for the 3 respective treatments |

Synchronization was monitored by measuring serum progesterone (P4) via enzyme immunoassay. The treatment was initiated by inserting an intravaginal progesterone release device (CIDR-G) at day 0 (D0) along with intramuscular cloprostenol 125 ?g, followed by 100 IU eCG on D3. The CIDR-G was removed on D5. After treatment, estrus was observed twice daily using a vasectomized buck. Blood samples were collected daily from D0 until D11 for serum P4 analysis. Eight out of nine (89%) does came into estrus with an average onset of estrus at 45.0 ? 4.4 hr (mean ? SE) after CIDR-G removal. The P4 concentration immediately before the treatment was 22.4 ? 5.3 ng.mL-1 (range 1.3 to 37.8 ng.mL-1). The highest concentration appeared on D1 and the lowest on D7. There was a difference between serum P4 concentrations during CIDR-G insertion (D1–D5) and after CIDR-G removal (D6–D9) (26.0 ? 2.4 and 3.4 ? 0.4 ng.mL-1, respectively, P < 0.001). The P4 profi les implied that this protocol based on 5-day progestin-based estrous synchronization can be applied successfully to crossbred dairy goats. |
