Abstract

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited autosomal kidney disease which is mostly reported in Persian and Persian-related cats. A screening of 102 Persian and Persian-related cats was conducted from 5 catteries in Thailand using ultrasonography. Seventeen cats (16.7%) were identified with PKD . PKD was found in male cats (n= 11; 10.8%) more than female cats (n=6; 5.9%). Furthermore, the average kidney size from cat with PKD was significantly larger than that of normal cat (p<0.05). There was no association between coat colors of the cats and theoccurrence of PKD. Our study suggests that ultrasonography is a useful tool for diagnosis of PKD in Persian and Persian-related cats in Thailand.
