Encapsulated cells of Candida mogii ATCC 18364 were used in a liquid emulsion membrane (LEM) bioreactor for producing xylitol from xylose. LEM systems examined consisted of (i) liquid paraffin, Span? 80 and Tween? 40; and (ii) soybean oil, lanolin and microwaxes.
