Abstract

The study of effect of melamine contaminated feed on hybrid clarias catfish (Clarias macrocephaluc x C.gariepinus). The hybrid clarias catfish were rndomly divided into two dietary treatments and each treatment consisted of 3 replications with 10 fish per replication. Control fish were fed 35 % protein pellet diet. Fish in treatment froups were fed with same formula diet but mixed with 5% melamine. The fish were fed twice a day for 35 days. The results indicated that the supplementation with melamine had no significant effect on survival rate (p<0.05). However the numbers of dark color fish were significant larger (p< 0.05) in treatment groups than control groups. The histological finding showed increase in number of melanin pigments and lymphocyte between epidermis and dermis layer of treatment fish skin. Beside the histology of skin, posterior kidney showed focal glomerular sclerosis and presented of crytral-like compound in Bowman's space of treatemnt fish.
