Many studies have shown the increasing role of the media in perpetuating and promoting violence against women through their representation of women and coverage of issues. Of the many influences on how women are viewed, the mass media are the most pervasive and one of the most powerful. All forms of mass media communicate images of the sexes and various types of violence against women. This study analyzed research on violence against women in mass media issues in the 20-year period from 1990 to 2010 in Thailand. The author reviews and synthesizes the key findings of the influence of mass media on violence against women in Thailand. Finally, the implications of these findings for future research are discussed. |
